I love using Facebook for reasons other than getting sucked into the political vortex of doom. You'll usually find me in groups full of entrepreneurs, business owners, marketers, and miscellaneous badasses.
From complete newbies to seasoned vets, no breed is spared from a critical flaw. It is not marketing, sales, product development, customer service, or management.
It Is The Shiny Object
The Shiny Object is a tool or a piece of software that will help you solve XYZ problem. It comes in many colors, shapes, and sizes. It is abundant across most industries, and a plethora of options are available for the picking.
Yet, one of the more common questions I see are around the best Shiny Object for helping someone with XYZ. Many of these questions are valid. Everyone needs a great Shiny Object to help them get the job done.
But Maybe You Don't Need A New Tool
There may be a dozen different ways of getting the job done, but there is no perfect Shiny Object. It is an endless quest. The best way to get the job done is by actually doing.
It's a common trap experienced especially in the world of electronics. You have last year's phone, laptop, or tablet, and the super awesome version 8.0 came out.
Your current device gets the job done. You don't really need super awesome version 8.0, but you create reasons that you do.
Maybe that new tool will help you. Maybe it will boost your productivity, sales, conversions, and change your life. But maybe it's just distracting you from getting the real work done.
