4 Social Media Stats To Pay Attention To
Stats are a dime a dozen. Many reports and studies come out every year with stats about something.
With the technology industry as well as social media, things change very rapidly and why its good to say on top of things.
Nielsen, a leading media research company, releases a social media report every quarter. For Q3 of 2011, I found some interesting stats, 4 of them particularly that are worth mentioning.
Nearly 4 in 5 active Internet users visit social networks and blogs
As much as I dislike the social media professionals who base their ability to get clients by fear mongering, social networking, web 2.0, whatever you wanna call it, is simply something that can't be ignored anymore. Its too ingrained into our society and our culture.
Close to 40% of social media users access social media content from their mobile phone
That's pretty big and means if your sites/blogs aren't mobile friendly, you're potentially losing valuable eyeballs. It's extremely easy to get a blog mobile friendly. I personally use WPtouch which requires very little setup and knowledge to use.
Tumblr is an emerging player in social media, nearly tripling it's audience from a year ago
In fact, Tumblr just recently hit 10 Billion total posts and is quickly becoming the next Blogger or Wordpress (.com version, not self hosted). The platform has great use for businesses and is great for an alternative blog, something for what doesn't necessarily fit on your main hub.
More women view video on social networks, but men watch longer
That's interesting. Why is that? If you do video, maybe work on ways of making the video more interesting and worth watching. If you can cut down time while not sacrificing quality, that's also a plus.
